Red Eel Press

The Red Eel Press was setup in mid-2011 and specialises in letterpress and print pieces.  A Librarian by day Samantha works from a small home print shop and has been printmaking since 'accidentally' purchasing a desktop press in early 2011. All work is hand set and printed by hand using a variety of papers, Adana and Hawthorn inks, wooden blocks, metal ornaments and metal, and wood types.  The papers and ornaments used by the press are sourced from small independent suppliers, presses and foundries across the UK, Japan & the United States. The emphasis of the press is on clean and simple printmaking, inspired by the arts and crafts movement, nineteenth-century book art, a love of good design, the printed word and pattern. Samantha has a passion for Monotype borders and ornaments celebrating both the designers of these borders and the endless pattern combinations that can be printed with them.
